Buffalo to get another 18 inches of snow

BUFFALO, N.Y., Dec. 26 (UPI) -- After getting more than 25 inches of snow on Christmas

Day, forecasters said the Buffalo area can expect the lake-effect snow to continue

through Thursday, with another 18 inches expected.

The National Weather Service said a low-pressure system will settle over the central

Great Lakes and remain stationary through Friday. The condition will continue to sweep

cold air across Lakes Erie and Ontario, generating more lake-effect snow.

The 25.2 inches of snow on Christmas was Buffalo's third heaviest 24-hour snowfall

on record. The second largest amount was 25.3 inches in 1982, while the heaviest was

37.9 in 1998.

Out of the last 126 Christmas Days in Buffalo, it has snowed 86, according to the

National Weather Service.
